Birr Municipal District: Seamus Rourke
From the Ferbane/Belmont area. Representing Birr Municipal District on Offaly Public Participation Network since 2015. Seamus has a Diploma in Community Development and Chair of the Ferbane Parish Community Alert. His interests include Offaly Heritage, History and the Environment. If successful, He is will continue his commitment to Offaly PPN.
Edenderry Municipal District:
Gerry will commence his second term as community rep on the Offaly PPN Secretariat. Gerry has been involved in Ballycommon Telework and Training Centre (BTTC) and Ballycommon Organisation for Local Development (B.O.L.D) from their inception. BTTC was founded to create employment in the local area and to offer valuable training. The Development association B.O.L.D has grown over the years and supports a number of initiatives valued in the community.
Johnny will commence his second term as community rep on Offaly PPN Secretariat. Johnny is committed to a number of community initiatives, Daingean Development Association, Daingean Town Hall, Killeigh Parish Finance Council and Daingean Community Childcare Centre to name but some over the last number of years.
Community & Voluntary: Maura Allen
I am living in Clonbullogue, involved in community activity for many years. I was a founder member of Clonbullogue Development Association, a member of the Parish Council and St. Broughan’s hall committee. I served as President and Secretary of Co. Offaly Federation ICA. I am presently on the board of OLDC. I represent that board on the Heritage forum. I have represented Edenderry Municipal district on the PPN secretariat. Through my membership of the organisations I have endeavoured to promote community welfare, improve facilities and recognise the work of volunteers. My attendance record at meetings can be verified by the CEO. OLDC and by the RW.PPN.
Community & Voluntary: Linda Dowling
I have served as a secretariat member for the past five years and was part of the process from the onset. I am interested in remaining on the secretariat to further its role. I am the PPN representative on the Laois Offaly Local Link Committee. I also represent Offaly PPN Secretariat at National Level on the Secretariat National Network. I welcome the opportunity to serve for a second term
Social Inclusion: Martin Buckley
Martin has demonstrated great leadership ability since becoming involved in the opening of the volunteer run Community shop in Pullough. He is chairperson of Pullough Residents’ Association and is also on the Community Alert committee. Martin is very enthusiastic, positive and energetic and has come up with many good ideas on how to improve the community of Pullough. He has a very good rapport with people of all ages.
Environmental: Caren Carruthers
I am currently the Chair of Geashill Tidy Towns, winner of a number of national and regional All Ireland Pollinator Awards. As a community group we are heavily involved in Biodiversity projects in conjunction with Local Authority, National Biodiversity Data Centre and other stakeholders. Last year our group hosted a 2 day Bioblitz event bringing together recorders from all around the country to our village highlighting the vast amount of species we have around us. I am also a member of the Geashill Sustainable Energy Committee, recently formed and working to create a greater awareness of sustainability in the local community.
